The Thai Child Development Foundation is active in the countryside in Phato village, Chumpon Province, in the south of Thailand.
Phato village is surrounded by mountains and rain forest. The main occupation in the area is fruit, palm, and coffee farming. The nature in Phato gives a lot and Phato is not a poor area. Therefor the children under the wing of the Thai Child Development Foundation are exceptions. And just because they are not many (there are only 23 handicapped children in this area for example) there is little extra support from the government for them.
Phato village has a good hospital for basic health care, several primary schools and a secondary school. The Thai Child Development Foundation has close bonds with the village leaders, the hospital, the villagers and the schools.
